Architect Stutchbury & Pape. Builders Craig Pocklington & Glen Thornton. Home featured in "Monument" magazine June/July 2005.
Species Australia www.speciesaustralia.com.au supplied all the hardwoods for this project, form post and beam construction, flooring, decks, windows & doors and timber bench tops.
We worked on this project from start to the finish. We supplied the windows and doors and also the internal joinery. From very large casement sashes to huge sliding doors, this again showed the versatility of Australian hardwoods. The building team of Craig, Glen, Mark & Stuart this was our 4th large project together. Our company has work with some fantastic builders over the years but nothing like this bunch of guys. This team of builders have constructed some remarkable projects.
A special thanks to Craig & Glen.
Springwater has the largest Australian Hardwood bi-fold doors we have made to date. At 3.2m high and 1.8m wide, weighing in at 165kg per sash, once the flush bolt is released a gentle push is all that is required as the sheer weight of these sashes do the rest.
Architecture by Stutchbury & Pape. Builder Watpow Constructions Pty Ltd. Our work included all external joinery and some internal joinery. This home won the Robin Boyd Award for Residential Buildings 2004 and was also joint winner of the 2005 MBA Excellence in Housing Awards $1m to $1.5m.
The building has three levels, starting at the ground level the bi-fold and sliding doors are 3.2m high, 1st floor 2.7m high and 2nd level 2.4m high. Our sailing hardware again was used extensively throughout this house on our sliding and our bi-fold doors.
Special thanks to Peter & David.
We don't often get the chance to supply our hardwood joinery to the local area but this home owner builder wanted something special to go with his incredible views and bring the outside environment right into the home.
With the structural strength of Australian Blackbutt supplied by Species Australia we where able to build large sliding doors that could slide past the out side of the building, opening up large spaces allowing not just great vision to the environment outside but allowing the air flow across the building, keeping it cool in summer. Then in winter the use of large timber sections and laminated glass in these sliding door ensured good thermal insulation for the home.
In the sleeping quarters the client want to use double hung sashes. Because we were using Blackbutt and these sashes where larger than usual we could not use the standard hardware used today on double hung windows. So we went back to the traditional way of make double hung windows, boxed frames, cords & weights. These sashes opened with minimal effort, with the use of fixed fly screens on the outside this gave great ventilation to the bedrooms night and day.
Thanks David.
